The Reed ST-Multikit includes a digital multimeter (DMM) and a digital clamp-meter, plus accessories, for measuring current, voltage frequency, and temperature, and detecting voltage in electrical testing applications. The DMM is the Reed ST-922 that measures AC (alternating current) and DC (direct current) to 10A (amperes), AC and DC voltage to 600V, capacitance to 200 microfarads, frequency to 10 megahertz, resistance to 40 megohms, and temperature to 760 degrees C (1,400 degrees F). The clamp meter is the Reed ST-9800T that measures AC and DC to 600amp, AC and DC voltage to 600 volts, capacitance to 100μF (microfarads), frequency to 10MHz (megahertz), resistance to 40MΩ (megohms), and temperature to 760 degrees C (1,400 degrees F). It has a clamp with two jaws that can close around an electrical conductor up to 33mm (1.3 inches) in diameter to measure current without touching or interrupting the circuit. Both meters have a rotary switch to select the property to measure, and a 4,000-count LCD. They also feature a data hold function that keeps the most recent reading on the display after disconnecting from the circuit, a continuity buzzer that confirms that the circuit conducts electricity, and a diode check that detects whether a circuit's diodes are working properly. A K-type thermocouple probe is included for measuring temperature and is compatible with both meters. In addition to the meters and the probe, the kit comes with the Reed AC-9 non-contact voltage (NCV) detector, the Reed AC-006 line splitter, a set of test leads, and a soft carrying case. The NCV senses AC voltage to 600V without making contact with the circuit, triggering a red LED when voltage exceeds 100V. A flashlight is built into the NCV for visibility in low light. The line splitter is for use with the clamp-meter to enable measurement of AC to 15A on two-wire and three-wire power cords.

Both meters meet EN (European Standard) safety standard 61010-1. The DMM is rated for CAT (category) III installations to 600V, which covers equipment in fixed installations, such as switches in the fixed installation and some industrial equipment that is permanently connected to the fixed installation. It operates on a single 9V battery. Accuracy and resolution specifications vary according to the range being measured. The clamp-meter is rated for CAT II installations to 600V, which covers energy-consuming equipment connected to a fixed installation, including household, office, and laboratory appliances. It operates on a single AAA battery. Accuracy and resolution specifications vary according to the range being measured. The NCV is rated for CAT IV installations to 600V, which covers equipment at the origin of the installation, such as electricity meters and primary over-current protection equipment. It operates on two AAA batteries.

Clamp-meters, also called clamp-on meters, have two jaws that fit around a conductor to measure electrical current without cutting through wires, or touching or interrupting the electrical circuit. Available in handheld or benchtop models, clamp-meters diagnose problems in electrical equipment, wiring, and power supplies. All clamp-meters test for current. Some come with test leads and inputs for measuring voltage, capacitance, and resistance. They display information either in analog or digital form. Factors that influence meter choice include the electrical properties to be measured, the anticipated range of results, and the desired level of protection against transient voltage. Safety ratings are based on International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards for low-voltage test equipment. IEC 61010 delineates four overvoltage installation categories. In general, a meter with a category IV rating will provide more protection against transient voltages than a meter with a lower category rating.

Reed Instruments manufactures test and measurement equipment such as pressure gauges, electrical testers, temperature and humidity instrumentation, and inspection instruments. The company, founded in 2004, is headquartered in Wilmington, NC.
