The Van Guard 1221CM clinical microscope has binocular viewing heads, Brightfield configuration, integrated Koehler illumination, and a magnification ability of 4X, 10X, 40X and 100X (oil immersion method) with plan achromatic lenses, for a variety of resolvant options. This microscope enhances object or image resolution, and is commonly used for research and professional applications in medical and veterinary clinics, universities and industrial laboratories.

This microscope features binocular viewing heads with fixed 30-degree inclination, and 360-degree rotation. It has 55-75 mm interpupillary adjustment for individual eye spacing, and - 5 to + 5 dioptric adjustment capabilities to compensate for the difference in viewing ability between each eye. Each head has a rubber eyepiece to block out external light interference. This microscope features Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN) standard plan achromatic objective lenses, which correct for red and yellow chromatic aberrations, and sharpens images. Adjustable resolution provides DIN-standard magnification ability of 4X, 10X, 40X, and 100X (0.10, 0.25, 0.60, 1.25 numerical aperture [NA]). Its optical system is fixed at 160 mm. Brightfield illumination controls light from below, allowing a specimen to absorb light for clear illumination. The unit has integrated Koehler illumination for brightness control. The unit adjusts light through an iris diaphragm, and has a 1.25 NA Abbe condenser for high resolution. It has rack and pinion focusing control. It has 20-watt variable quartz halogen lighting, and a filter holder located on the collector. The microscope has a 10X widefield eyepiece magnifier, which locks on to the unit for ease of operation, and provides an 18 mm field diameter.

The rectangular, chemical-resistant mechanical stage has a drop-down, right-hand, rack and pinion X-Y assembly. A removable, spring-clip slide holder mechanism provides specimen maneuverability, and it has a cross-travel range of 75 x 50 mm. The microscope has coaxial coarse- and fine-focus adjustment controls with tension adjustment and an auto-stop mechanism protects slides. It has a slip clutch mechanism, and a tension control mechanism to protect the gears. The reverse-pitch nosepiece has secure, positive stops, and four rotation positions to support a range of magnification. The microscope has a stain-resistant, ergonomic, and durable cast metal body with an enamel finish, and anti-skid rubber feet to prevent slipping. It comes with a clear diffusing filter, a blue filter, spare lamps and fuses, a dust cover, two rubber eyecups, and instructions. The 1221CM has five-year mechanical and optical warranties, and a one-year electrical warranty.

The 1221CM microscope overall dimensions are 380 x 210 x 180 mm (H x W x D), and base dimensions are 210 x 180 mm (W x D). The unit weighs 5.5 kg. It works with a 1A, 250 volt fuse (included), and a 110-volt power source for illumination, and comes with a six-foot power cord.
