The Megger PAT320 portable benchtop appliance tester is a benchtop tester that evaluates the safety of electrical equipment. The unit can be set to perform automatically or manually, with user-selected pass/fail limits to speed up testing and simplify the results. The tester supports all regulatory test requirements, including Class 1 (grounded) and Class 2 (non-grounded) equipment, International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) power cords, and extension leads. The tester performs a variety of common tests, including earth bond and continuity, insulation, touch current, differential leakage, substitute/alternative leakage, and functional load tests. It can also perform standard earth bond, insulation, and polarity tests on extension and IEC power leads. High- and low-current bond tests (25A, 10A, and 200mA) are selectable either by default or individually per test. A test lead null feature enables the use of extended test leads without affecting pass/fail limits or having to manually account for the additional resistance. The unit is safety rated to European Standard EN61010-1: 2001, CAT II, 300V. The PAT320 is commonly used by electricians and electrical contractors.

Component testers evaluate the safety and performance of electrical tools and appliances. The testers evaluate the grounding, current leakage, insulation resistance, and other electrical features. These testers work by providing a test current at a specific level, which is used to ensure that the appliance can be operated safely. Some testers may be pre-set to test the appliance or tool to a certain standard, such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL) or American National Standards Institute (ANSI) specifications and may include automatic or manual selection of test currents or voltages.

Megger manufactures equipment for cable fault locating, protective relay testing, telecommunications and data integrity, and power quality testing under multiple brand names, among them Megger, Biddle, States, and AVO. The company, founded in 1889, is headquartered in Dover, England, and meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2008 standards.
