The Megger 569001-8 contact probe locates ultrasonic frequencies on solid surfaces in electrical testing, automotive, power utility, and heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) applications. The contact probe attaches to the Megger 569001-KIT ultrasonic leak and corona detector (not included) and is held against a surface like a stethoscope to detect ultrasonic emissions from sources such as faulty steam traps, worn bearings, and worn gears. The probe responds to frequencies in the 40 kilohertz range. It has an overall length of 10.0 inches (254 mm) and an overall diameter of 1.75 (44 mm). The probe's stem measures 6 inches (152 mm) long and the probe's diameter is 0.125 inches (3.2 mm).

Leak detectors are used in mechanical, automotive, petrochemical, wastewater treatment, plumbing, electrical, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) applications to locate the source of a leaking gas or liquid. Simple leak detectors use dyes, pH- or chemically reactive indicators, or a foaming substance to find leaks in pipes, tubes, fittings, tanks, and cylinders. More complex leak detectors have electronic sensors that measure the concentration of leaked gas or liquid in an area to pinpoint the source of leaks, determine the type of gas present, monitor air quality, and detect electrical corona or failing valves, bearings, and solenoids.

Megger manufactures equipment for cable fault locating, protective relay testing, telecommunications and data integrity, and power quality testing under multiple brand names, among them Megger, Biddle, States, and AVO. The company, founded in 1889, is headquartered in Dover, England, and meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard 9001:2008.
