The National Optical D-ELDB Digital Binocular Compound LED Microscope with built-in 3.0 megapixel camera and imaging software has 18mm, 10X widefield eyepieces with achromatic 4X (0.10 Numerical Aperture [NA]), 10X (0.25 NA), 40XR (0.65 NA), and 100XR oil-immersion, color-coded, achromatic lens objectives to create and document two-dimensional images for biological use and educational applications. The achromatic lenses provide clarity and color correction of magnified images, and meet Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN) standards. The quad objective turret is ball-bearing mounted for precise positioning of objectives. One eyepiece has a pointer to identify areas of interest on a specimen. Illumination is provided by a 3.4V 0.06-watt LED with rheostat control for adjusting the amount of light projected on the specimen. The camera works in conjunction with the included Motic Images Plus 2.0 software to capture images, record video, take measurements, and create reports. Compatible with Mac and PC, the software will operate with the following minimum specifications: 2GHz or higher processor, USB 2.0, 1MB RAM, 500MB hard disk space, and a 128MB video card. The coaxial coarse-focusing control with tension adjustment and the graduated fine-focusing control provide sharp focus. The microscope's stage features a built-in specimen holder with a stage stop mechanism to protect slides. It has an Abbe condenser with rack and pinion focusing, an iris diaphragm, and a swing-out frosted filter holder. The microscope is made of cast aluminum with a gray enamel finish. It comes with a 4.5V DC power adapter for 110V to 220V.

Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.

National Optical and Scientific Instruments manufactures microscopes and microscope cameras. The company, founded in 1991, is headquartered in Schertz, TX.
