This temperature probe is the standard Virtjoule commercial temperature probe used in walk-in coolers, refrigerated warehouses, air conditioners, air handlers, air ducts, refrigerated trucks, computer room air conditioners, and radio and cell tower buildings. It's also useful for home brewing, personal weather stations, education, and environmental conditions testing. It is built as a liquid proof stainless 5/16" 304L barrel that is food safe. Exposed epoxy on the tip is also food safe. The adjustable mounting flange holds the barrel with friction. It can be slid up and down the 8" barrel to place the probe where you want it. It holds where you put it. The temperature pickup is near the end of the barrel (~0.25" from the end). This is very helpful for getting accurate readings from a duct air stream or pulling temperature from the middle of a brewing kettle. Epoxy potting gives some dampening of temperature results. By design, it's what we call moderately responsive. The lead wire is 6' long with three conductor 22 AWG wire (Red +, Black -, Green-Signal). It operates on voltage from 2.3 to 5.5 V. You will see linear response from 0 to to 3 V with +/- 2C accuracy. If you do the calibration (ice, and boiling water), you can be much more accurate. This probe only draws 6 uA and can be run very long distances. Unlike digital probes running on protocols like 1-wire, Virtjoule routinely runs these probes up to 500 ft using normal voltage inputs and signals in commercial environments. So it should work well at almost any distance you want it to. Compare to Atlas Scientific ENV-TMP. Greater temperature range than ENV-TMP. Much smaller diameter for easier hole drilling and mounting. Longer 8" probe length for more precise positioning. This is a perfect probe when your Arduino project calls for something longer, more rugged, and serious to do real work.
