The weight is constructed of polished stainless steel for stability, resistance to corrosion, and low magnetic susceptibility, and a polished surface highlights wear that can affect weight precision. The set includes a calibration weight, a handling glove, and a protective case. The weight meets American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) E617, Class 1 specification for use as a reference standard for calibrating other weights and high-precision balances with readabilities as low as 0.1mg to 0.01mg.Calibration weights are used to measure the weight or mass of an object using a balance or scale, or to calibrate other weights or instruments.
