The Thomas traceable digital caliper has an accuracy and measurement resolution of 0.01 inches, is made of carbon fiber, and has a 1/3†high digital display for readability. Linear accuracy is traceable to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards. The caliper includes a certificate of calibration accredited by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) as meeting International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 17025. Traceable digital calipers are commonly used for measuring the outside dimension (OD) of stoppers, the inside dimension (ID) of tubing, and the depth of vials. Carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer, also called carbon fiber, has a high strength-to-weight ratio and high rigidity. The carbon fiber slide bar eliminates the need for lubrication, which helps reduce maintenance. Carbon fiber is also non-conductive, allowing the carbon fiber calipers to be used with electrically charged or sensitive materials. Calipers measure the distance between two opposing sides of an object. They make inside, outside, depth, or step measurements, according to their type. Calipers are commonly used in architecture, metalworking, mechanical engineering, and machining. The simplest calipers have two legs to mark the two points and require a ruler to take the measurement. More complex calipers use two sets of jaws instead of legs and have up to two graduated scales. Vernier, dial, and digital calipers give direct and accurate readings and are functionally identical, having a calibrated scale with a fixed jaw, and another jaw with a movable pointer that slides along the scale. The vernier caliper has a scale sliding parallel to the main scale for an additional, fractional reading to improve measurement precision. The dial caliper has a circular dial with a pointer on a toothed gear rack replacing the second vernier scale. As with the vernier, this second measurement is added to the reading from the main scale to obtain the result. The digital caliper takes a differential by zero...

The Starrett 83A-4 “Yankee†spring-type divider caliper opens to 4†(100 mm) with sturdy construction and smooth action. It is made of flat stock, high-grade steel, for easily reproducible and accurate transfer of measurements, scribing lines, arcs, and circles, and marking distances between two points. This caliper has flat, straight legs and comes with a solid nut. Bow spring is flexible yet strong, for reliability. The centrally located adjustment rod ensures smooth action when opening and closing the caliper. The hardened fulcrum stud is strong to help prevent give or play in the measurement, which would reduce accuracy. Calipers measure the distance between two opposing sides of an object. They make inside, outside, depth, or step measurements, according to their type. Calipers are commonly used in architecture, metalworking, mechanical engineering, machining, manufacturing, carpentry, and medicine. The simplest calipers have two legs to mark the two points and require a ruler to take the measurement. More complex calipers use two sets of jaws instead of legs and have up to two graduated scales. The dial caliper has a circular dial with a pointer on a toothed gear rack replacing the second vernier scale. As with the vernier, this second measurement is added to the reading from the main scale to obtain the result. The dial caliper is used also for measuring size differential between two objects. The digital caliper takes the same sort of differential measurements as the dial caliper by zeroing the display at any point along the slide, with an LCD (replacing the dial) that displays a single, easily read value in both English and metric units. The Fowler 52-057-004 stainless steel mini vernier pocket caliper has an inch scale, a 4" measuring range, and a 0.001" graduation for measuring the inside diameter (ID) and outside diameter (OD) of holes, grooves, and tube thicknesses, and depth measurements of bores and grooves. Stainless steel construction provides durability and wear resistance, and sharp black graduations on a satin-finished bar ease reading. A locking screw secures the measurement tightly in place for accurate reading. The caliper includes a pocket-size fitted case. Vernier calipers are measuring instruments commonly used for inspection in manufacturing to provide the precise measurements of an object. A pair of jaws attached to a long beam with a marked scale is used to take inside, outside, and step measurements. An additional depth probe slides along the beam to take depth measurements. One jaw is fixed to the end of the scale, while the other jaw slides along it with gearless precision to take measurements. The main scale is engraved directly on the beam while the vernier scale is engraved on the slider mechanism. The base measurement is taken from the long beam, which provides the initial whole measurement in inches, centimeters, or millimeters. To obtain the total measurement, the base reading is added to the vernier scale reading, which provides fractional measurements in inches or millimeters. A locking mechanism provides the ability to take differential measurements for determining the difference in measurements between two objects. Compared to digital and dial calipers, vernier calipers are more durable because they do not have internal moving parts, and are less prone to inaccuracy caused by shock, debris, and other contaminants, but they can be more difficult to read than digital and dial calipers. Vernier calipers are commonly used in fields such as metalworking, mechanical engineering, machining, and carpentry. The Fred V. Fowler Company manufactures inspection and measurement instruments such as electronic indicators, calipers...
