The Mitutoyo 146 series groove micrometer has a flanged spindle for measurement of grooves, bores, and tubes, and a vernier scale with dual graduations in metric units for taking inside dimension (ID) and outside dimension (OD) measurements. It also has a non-rotating spindle that helps provide steady positioning during measurement, and a bidirectional ratchet-stop mechanism for uniform pressure during adjustment. The vernier scale on the thimble and sleeve is graduated to 0.01mm. The micrometer is made of high-grade tool steel for durability and has a satin chrome rust- and glare-resistant finish. Micrometers are precision measuring instruments that use a calibrated screw to measure small distances. These measurements are translated into large rotations of the screw that are then able to be read from a scale or a dial. Micrometers are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. There are three types of micrometer: outside, inside, and depth. Outside micrometers may also be called micrometer calipers, and are used to measure the length, width, or outside diameter of an object. Inside micrometers are typically used to measure interior diameter, as in a hole. Depth micrometers measure the height, or depth, of any shape that has a step, groove, or slot.Mitutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and systems. The company was founded in Tokyo in 1934 and formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963, which is headquartered in Aurora, IL.

The Starrett 824 series fixed range vernier inside micrometer has an adjustable sleeve and adjustable contacts on the thimble end help provide accurate measurements, and a vernier scale in inch units for making precise measurements. A knurled thimble helps provide secure grip, and the handles are heat-insulated to help reduce temperature-related expansion or contraction. The vernier scale is graduated to 0.001†and a knurled ring-type lock nut holds measurements in place. The micrometer has a satin chrome rust- and glare-resistant finish.Micrometers are precision measuring instruments that use a calibrated screw to measure small distances. The ratchet thimble mechanism helps to ensure repeatable results by transmitting micro vibrations along the spindle to the contact face to provide a constant measuring force and encourage good contact with the work piece. The ratchet works from the thimble as well as the speeder so it is always easy to use even when making measurements one handed. The sound of the ratchet provides the user with a sense of confidence and the speeder enables the rapid spindle feed needed when measuring widely different dimensions.
