The Brown & Sharpe outside rolling mill micrometer has a vernier scale in inch units for taking precise outside diameter (OD) measurements, a convertible friction drive thimble mechanism for uniform or variable pressure during adjustment, and a deep-throated frame for measuring thickness of sheet metal, paper, plastic, or rubber parts. The micrometer’s high-grade tool steel frame has a black enamel finish for protection and durability. The vernier scale on the thimble and sleeve is graduated to 0.001â€, and has a satin chrome rust- and glare-resistant finish. The spindle and anvils are made of hardened steel for durability, and are lapped to help provide accuracy. The ratchet mechanism can be disabled for variable adjustment control. A spindle lock helps provide secure locking of the measurement position. Micrometers are precision measuring instruments that use a calibrated screw to measure small distances. These measurements are translated into large rotations of the screw that are then able to be read from a scale or a dial. Micrometers are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. There are three types of micrometer: outside, inside, and depth. Outside micrometers may also be called micrometer calipers, and are used to measure the length, width, or outside diameter of an object. Inside micrometers are typically used to measure interior diameter, as in a hole. Depth micrometers measure the height, or depth, of any shape that has a step, groove, or slot.Brown & Sharpe manufactures precision measuring equipment and metrology hand tools. The company, founded in 1833, played a key role in setting industrial standards in the United States. Brown & Sharpe was acquired by Hexagon Metrology in 2001, and is headquartered in North Kingstown, RI.

The Fowler 52-246 series outside micrometer has a blade-style anvil/spindle pair with a choice of measuring range and 0.0001" graduations and is designed to measure groove diameters of shafts and workpieces with narrow or recessed features. The Vernier scale has 0.0001" graduations and an accuracy of 0.0002" for precise readings and accurate measurements. A zero adjustment on the sleeve ensures accurate measurements. The blade has a 0.030" thickness, a 0.256" width, and a 0.315" penetration for measuring narrow grooves and hard-to-reach areas, and a non-rotating spindle keeps workpieces stable during measurements. The hardened, ground, and lapped spindle thread provides smooth movement, accuracy, and long life. The ratchet-stop thimble can be used independently of the friction thimble. It provides an audible sound and stops the spindle from turning when the spindle comes into contact with the workpiece, providing constant force for consistent measurements between operators. A satin chrome finish on the thimble and sleeve helps reduce rust and glare, providing durability and long life, and microfine graduations help ensure accurate readings. The baked-enamel frame is heat-insulated to provide durability, long life, and resistance to temperature-related expansion and contraction. The micrometer includes a wrench and a fitted case. Micrometers 2" and above include a standard. The Starrett 3751AZ-6/150 is an electronic height gauge with fine adjustment thumb roll, slide lock, a steel scriber, a hardened stainless steel bar, a measurement range of 0 to 6" (150mm), and a high-contrast LCD digital readout precise to 0.0005" (0.01mm) with + or – 0.001" (0.03mm) of accuracy. The LCD characters are 0.32" high for ease of reading. A fine adjustment thumb roll provides precision measurements. A lock holds the slide in position. The included scriber, used to mark position on the workpiece, is steel for hardness and durability. The round nose of the scriber cuts clean, sharp lines with smoothness and less pressure and can reference zero from the bottom of the base to get the full usable range. The gauge provides the ability to set a temporary zero position and return to a true zero reading. The bar is hardened, stainless steel for durability and is back from the edge of the nose for stability. The base is hardened, ground, and lapped with finger grooves for a comfortable hand grip and ease of movement. The gauge is powered by one 3V CR 2032 battery (included). An auto power-off feature turns the gauge off after 5 minutes of inactivity to extend battery life. The gauge can measure depth of holes, slots, and recesses with the PT08680A depth attachment (sold separately). The gauge comes with the scriber, battery, and an aluminum case. Height gauges, sometimes referred to as gages, are precision measuring instruments that travel on a vertical column (also called the beam) to measure and/or mark the vertical distance from the base of an object in fine units. The vertical position of the gauge and its attached pointer are changed by turning a calibrated screw, or one or more feed wheels. Recorded rotations are read from a scale, a dial, counters, and/or an electronic display. A screw clamp holds the pointer to the gauge. The pointer is typically sharpened to act as a scriber, and can be used to mark a position on a workpiece by scratching its surface. On compatible units, the scriber may be rep...
