The Fowler 52-621-001 EZ-Read large-anvil micrometer has a 0 to 1" measuring range to measure workpieces with gaps or staggered teeth, such as milling cutters, saws, or irregular workpieces. The anvil is 0.550 x 1.970" (H x W) to provide a large area to bridge gaps between adjacent measuring surfaces. (H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right.) The digit scale has 0.0001" graduations precise readings. The carbide-tipped spindle provides wear resistance. The spindle thread is hardened, ground, and micro-lapped to provide smooth movement, accuracy, and long life. The positive locking lever on the spindle locks measurements in place for accurate readings. A friction thimble provides smooth and quiet operations, and is suitable for one-handed operation. Friction-style thimbles stop turning when the spindle comes into contact with the workpiece, providing constant force for consistent measurements between operators. The heat-insulated steel frame helps reduce temperature-related expansion or contraction providing accurate measurements. The micrometer includes a fitted case. These measurements are translated into large rotations of the screw that are then able to be read from a scale or a dial. Micrometers are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. There are three types of micrometer: outside, inside, and depth. Outside micrometers may also be called micrometer calipers, and are used to measure the length, width, or outside diameter of an object. Inside micrometers are typically used to measure interior diameter, as in a hole. Depth micrometers measure the ...
