The Starrett 663 series heavy-duty micrometer head has a wide-diameter spindle, stem, and thimble for heavy-duty use, and a vernier scale in inch units for taking precise measurements to 1â€. It also has a knurled ring-type lock nut to hold measurements in place. The micrometer has a plain stem for mounting in a fixture with a split-body clamp or setscrew. The vernier scale is graduated to 0.001†or 0.0001†depending on the model, and has a satin chrome rust- and glare-resistant finish. The spindle is made of hardened steel to help provide durability, with a flat measuring face suitable for measurement or use as a stop, and is micro-lapped to help provide accuracy.Micrometers are precision measuring instruments that use a calibrated screw to measure small distances. These measurements are translated into large rotations of the screw that are then able to be read from a scale or a dial. Micrometers are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. There are three types of micrometer: outside, inside, and depth. Outside micrometers may also be called micrometer calipers, and are used to measure the length, width, or outside diameter of an object. Inside micrometers are typically used to measure interior diameter, as in a hole. Depth micrometers measure the height, or depth, of any shape that has a step, groove, or slot. Micrometer heads are for mounting in fixtures, where they are typically used for measurement, or as stops or feeds. The L.S. Starrett Company manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology and testing equipment, and saw blade products. The company was founded in 1880 and is headquartered in Athol, MA.

The Mitutoyo Series 527 Vernier Depth Gauges with Fine Adjustment, Hook End Type, Metric, have a measurement range of 0 to 150mm, a resolution (or smallest graduation interval) of 0.02mm, with + or – 0.03mm of accuracy; 0 to 200mm, a resolution or 0.02mm, with + or – 0.03mm of accuracy; or a range of 0 to 300mm, a resolution of 0.02mm, with + or – 0.04mm of accuracy. The vernier scale provides precise measurements. The end of the main scale is hook-shaped to allow depth and thickness measurements of a projected portion or lip in a hole, in addition to standard depth measurements. These gauges are made of hardened stainless steel and the bases of the units (100mm long) and measuring faces are hardened and lapped for durability and accuracy. They have a fine adjustment screw for taking precise measurements. An optional wider extension base is sold separately. Depth gauges are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. Depth gauges are precision measuring instruments used to determine the depth of any shape that has a step, groove, or slot. These gauges often take the form of sliders that travel on a measuring beam or rods, are moved to position by hand, and then adjusted with a calibrated screw. The base of the gauge rests at the top of the shape whose recession is to be measured, while the beam or rods extend to the bottom of the recession to determine the measurement. Gauge position is read from a graduated scale, dial, counters, or an electronic display.Mitutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and related systems. The company, founded in Tokyo in 1934, formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963 with headquarters in Aurora, IL.

The Fowler 52-218-111 Vernier-style micrometer with spline-style anvil/spindle pair has a 0 to 1" measuring range to measure the outside diameter of splines, grooves, and recesses. The faces have a 0.118" diameter and a 0.394" length for measuring small-diameter recesses. The Vernier scale has 0.0001" graduation intervals and an accuracy of 0.0001" for precise readings. Microfine graduations on satin chrome finish provide clear reading. The anvil/spindle pair have hardened, precision-ground, and micro-lapped measuring faces with 0.00002" flatness and 0.00005" parallelism for accurate measurements. The ratchet stop thimble provides an audible sound and stops turning when the spindle comes into contact with the workpiece, providing constant force for consistent measurements between operators. The micrometer includes a fitted case. The Fowler 52-250-301-1 outside micrometer has a digit display with 0.001" graduations and a secondary Vernier-scale with 0.0001" graduations, an accuracy of 0.00016", a 0 to 1" measuring range, and a disc-style anvil/spindle pair to measure thickness of narrow grooves and difficult or closely spaced areas, such as slots and recesses. Disc micrometers are also used to measure ribs, keys, fins, and cutting edges on forming tools, and the chordal thickness of gear teeth. The anvil/spindle shafts have a 0.256" diameter, and hardened, ground, and micro-lapped measuring faces provide wear resistance. The discs have a 0.708" diameter, a 0.280" center-hole diameter, and a 0.035" edge thickness for measuring hard-to-reach areas. A 0.00004" flatness and 0.00016" parallelism provide accurate measurements. The hardened, ground, and lapped spindle thread provides smooth movement, accuracy, and long life. The positive locking nut on the spindle locks measurements in place for accurate readings. The ratchet-stop thimble provides an audible sound and stops the spindle from turning when the spindle comes into contact with the workpiece, providing constant force for consistent measurements between operators. The baked-enamel frame provides durability and long life and is tapered for hard-to-reach areas. The micrometer includes a wrench and a fitted case.
