Frey Scientific Digital Microscope, 4X, 10X, 40XR, 100XR Objectives, LED Illumination
The Frey Scientific 528598 advanced cordless digital compound microscope has a monocular viewing head, a 10x widefield eyepiece with a revolving pointer, reverse-mounted 4x, 10x, and 40xR DIN achromatic, and 100xR DIN achromatic oil objective, a 1.25 numerical aperture (N.A.) Abbe condenser with cool LED lighting and iris diaphragm, coarse and fine focus, and 1.3 mega-pixel (MP) camera. The compound microscope provides two-dimensional images and specimen magnification of 40x, 100x, 400x, and 1000x. The monocular viewing head is mounted at a 45-degree incline for comfortable viewing. The 10x widefield eyepiece has a revolving pointer to identify areas of interest. The reverse-mounted objective head keeps objectives out of the way when manipulating specimens and are parcentered and parfocal to keep the image centered and in focus when changing magnification. The 40xR and 100xR objectives are retractable to prevent damage to the objectives when they come into contact with the specimen. The Abbe condenser has a 1.25 N.A. and a cool LED light with an iris diaphragm to control the amount of light directed on the specimen. LED lighting keeps the specimen cool while viewing. Low-position coarse and fine focus provides sharp image. A true mechanical stage can be adjusted side-to-side and stage clips hold the specimen in place. The built-in 0.3MP camera exports images with a resolution up to 640 x 480 pixels and has a USB port to export images. The included Motic Images software requires Mac OS X or greater or Windows XP, Vista or 7. Specifications
Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries. School Specialty provides instructional materials and supplies under dozens of brands, among them Think Math, Delta Education, Frey Scientific, Childcraft, and School Smart. The company, founded in 1959, is headquartered in Greenville, WI. What’s in the Box?
