The Oakton WD-39644-00 infrared thermometer with type K input measures contact and non—contact surface temperature for use in food preparation, field measurements, and mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting. The infrared sensor measures temperature from - 60 to 500 degrees C (- 76 to 932 degrees F), with an accuracy of + or - 2% of the measurement or 2 degrees C/3.6 degrees F, whichever is higher. The type K thermocouple probe measures temperature from - 64 to 1400 degrees C (- 83.2 to 1999 degrees F), with an accuracy of + or - 1% or 1 degree C/1.8 degrees F, whichever is greater. The infrared sensor has an 11:1 distance-to-spot measurement ratio with laser sighting for pinpointing the measurement area. User-selectable audible and visual alarms indicate when the temperature exceeds high and low limits. The memory of the thermometer saves minimum and maximum temperatures, average temperature, and minimum/maximum differential. A lock function allows for continuous measurements without having to hold down a button. The unit has a hold function and selectable auto-off. The Oakton WD-39644-00 is used to measure the temperature of hot and cold food products, electrical connections, engine parts, and other surfaces.

Digital infrared thermometers measure the temperature of surfaces from a distance. They may measure temperature in Celsius, Fahrenheit, or both. Infrared (IR) thermometers work by focusing the infrared radiation emitted by a surface onto a detector called a thermopile. The thermopile turns the heat into electricity, which is measured and converted to a temperature reading. The reading is then displayed on an LCD display. IR thermometers are used to measure temperature when an object is fragile, as in ear thermometers, or dangerous to be near, as in the case of industrial equipment.

Oakton Instruments manufactures scientific instruments for research, industrial, and educational uses. The company, founded in 1991 and headquartered in Vernon Hills, IL, specializes in meters, electrodes, and transmitters.
