The TPI 312C auto field-calibrated, water resistant, stem-style digital thermometer with penetration tip is for monitoring temperature in food service, electrical testing, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning applications. It measures temperature from -50 to 150 degrees C (-58 to 300 degrees F) with an accuracy of + or - 1 degree C (2 degrees F). The thermometer can be calibrated in an ice bath to preserve the accuracy of readings. The LCD screen shows the current temperature. The operator can choose to display readings in degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius. The stem-style probe is 5" long and has a penetration tip for taking measurements while immersed in liquid and air. The tapered stem measures 0.12" (3.1 mm) in diameter and can fit into a Pete's plug. A hold function keeps a reading on display so it can be recorded. The body is made from reinforced plastic, which resists impact and wear. It has an ingress protection rating of IP67, meaning it is protected against dust and the effects of immersion up to 39" (1 m). It comes with a sheath that helps protect the stem from damage during transport and storage. The sheath has a clip that can be secured to a pocket for carrying when not in use. The thermometer runs on one LR44 button battery (included). The thermometer automatically turns off after a period of non-use to conserve battery life, and a low battery indicator signals when the battery needs to be replaced.

Digital thermometers are instruments used to measure the temperature of air, liquids, or surfaces electronically. They may measure temperature in Celsius, Fahrenheit, or both. Most digital thermometers use thermistors, which are small electronic resistors. Thermistors are made out of metals that conduct electricity within a certain range and become more conductive the warmer they get. A microcontroller inside the thermometer measures this electrical conductivity and converts it to a temperature, which is displayed on an LCD. Digital thermometers are used in a wide range of applications, including in laboratory settings, food service and storage, and in doctors' offices and hospitals.

Test Products International (TPI) manufactures test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, manometers, multimeters, and test leads. The company, founded in 1997, is headquartered in Beaverton, OR.
