The calibrated Mitutoyo 543-793BCAL Absolute Digimatic digital indicator gauge, ID-S series, is for measuring short, linear distances in mechanical engineering, machining, and manufacturing applications. It has a measurement range of 0 to 0.5" (0 to 12.7mm), a resolution of 0.0001" (0.001mm), and an accuracy of + or – 0.00012". The LCD displays in both inches and metric units. This model has a flat back for stem mounting or plate mounting on the rear of the indicator. An Absolute electrostatic capacitance linear encoder helps prevent overspeed errors for taking accurate measurements. This model is Ingress Protection certified IP42 for protection against objects greater than 1mm and dripping water. Mitutoyo calibrated tools include a Certificate of Calibration that provides evidence that the tool has been calibrated and is within allowable error specifications. Mitutoyo calibrated tools are certified by Mitutoyo's American Association for Laboratory Accreditation-accredited calibration laboratory (A2LA Certificate #750-01) to the International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) 17025 International Standard for testing and calibration laboratories.

This unit has a 3/8" diameter stem and a #4-48 UNF contact point thread mount. Additional functions for this indicator include origin set, zero set, counting direction switching, and alerts for low voltage, counting value composition error, and overflow error. The measuring force is 2.0 Newtons (N) or less. It has a battery life of approximately 20,000 hours of normal use. This unit comes with an SR-44 battery. This gauge offers serial data output (using optional SPC cables, sold separately), which increases speed and reliability of digital measurement records.

Indicator gauges, also called gages or dial indicators, are precision instruments that measure short linear distances. They are commonly used for detecting deviations from tolerance limits, such as the amount of surface distortion, or runout, on a round or cylindrical workpiece. They have two styles: digital indicator gauges and dial indicator gauges. Digital indicator gauges use an electronic sensor and display measurement through an LCD or other digital display. Dial indicator gauges measure through a spring-loaded plunger driven into its shaft. The pointer on the dial display marks the degree the plunger is depressed, while an additional turn counter may track the number of times the pointer has spun around the dial. For all types of indicator gauges, runout is typically measured when the tip of the plunger (the point) is held perpendicular to the rotating workpiece.
