The Reed ST-880 dual-range infrared thermometer is used for noncontact surface temperature measurement in electrical and automotive maintenance, safety and fire inspection, and monitoring industrial, food service, and manufacturing processes. It measures temperature from -50 to +536 degrees F (-50 to +280 degrees C), with an accuracy of + or - 2% of the reading or 4 degrees F (2 degrees C) from -4 to +536 degrees F (-20 to +280 degrees C). It has an 8:1 infrared distance-to-spot ratio with laser sighting for pinpointing the measurement area. The backlit, 1999-count LCD helps eliminate light reflections and improves contrast in low-light conditions. The unit operates on a single 9V battery and turns off automatically after seven seconds of non-use to conserve battery life. It has a low-battery indicator that signals when the battery needs to be replaced, and an over-range indicator that indicates when the temperature being measured is out of the thermometer's range. The European Conformity (CE) marking indicates compliance with applicable European Union (EU) directives. It comes with a battery, a carrying case, and instructions.

Digital infrared thermometers measure the temperature of surfaces from a distance. They may measure temperature in Celsius, Fahrenheit, or both. Infrared (IR) thermometers work by focusing the infrared radiation emitted by a surface onto a detector called a thermopile. The thermopile turns the heat into electricity, which is measured and converted to a temperature reading. The reading is then displayed on an LCD display. IR thermometers are used to measure temperature when an object is fragile, as in ear thermometers, or dangerous to be near, as in the case of industrial equipment.

Reed Instruments manufactures test and measurement equipment such as pressure gauges, electrical testers, temperature and humidity instrumentation, and inspection instruments. The company, founded in 2004, is headquartered in Wilmington, NC.
