The Amprobe AM-240 Autoranging Multimeter with Temperature Sensor has autoranging and manual controls for measuring temperature, current, voltage, capacitance, resistance, duty cycle, and frequency in HVAC and industrial electrical testing applications. The meter measures AC/DC current to 10 amps, AC/DC voltage to 600V, capacitance to 4,000 microfarads, resistance to 40 megaohms, duty cycle from 0.1 to 99.9 percent at frequencies lower than 10 kHz, and frequency to 10 MHz. A K-type thermocouple probe with banana plug measures temperature from -58 to 1,382 degrees F (-50 to 700 degrees C) with a resolution of one degree. The dual-display LCD screen shows current and voltage. Included test leads measure circuit voltage, capacitance, resistance, frequency, and duty cycle, and test for continuity and proper functioning of circuit diodes. The microamps measurement feature has a 0.1 microamp resolution at the 400 microamp range, and a 1 microamp resolution at the 4,000 microamp range for identifying small current changes. The maximum reading mode displays the highest measurement in a session, and an audible continuity buzzer confirms that a circuit is capable of conducting current. The data hold function keeps the desired reading on the display after disconnecting the probe. A relative zero mode stores a reading in memory to use as a zero point for subsequent readings, an auto power-off mode turns off the unit after 30 seconds of non-use to conserve battery life and can be disabled, and a low-battery indicator signals when the meter's batteries need to be replaced. A tilt stand holds the meter at an angle for reading.

This average sensing, or average responding, meter provides accurate readings when measuring linear loads where the current or voltage has a sinusoidal waveform, such as standard induction motors and incandescent lights. The meter has a 4,000-count resolution, meaning that it can display up to 4,000 units (3-3/4 digits) before the operating range needs to be changed. It meets International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) safety standard 61010, and is certified for Category III up to 600V. This certification covers items used with enclosed building circuit installations, such as service panel parts, branch circuits, and fixed installations that are connected directly to a building's AC power supply. It operates on two AA batteries (installed).

Electrical test meters report electrical circuit properties, such as voltage, resistance, capacitance, and continuity. Available in handheld or benchtop form, they troubleshoot electrical problems in equipment, wiring, and power supplies. A variety of probes, clamps, and leads can be used to connect the meter to a circuit or device. Single-function meters, such as battery testers and voltage testers, measure one property of a circuit, and multimeters measure multiple properties. Electrical test meters display information either in analog form using a needle that moves on a calibrated scale, or in digital form using digits or a graphic representation on an LCD screen. Electrical properties that are to be measured and the anticipated range of results determine meter choice. Choose a meter with a rating that is higher than the maximum value of the anticipated range. An electrical test meter has multiple settings corresponding to potential ranges of values for the properties it can measure. A manual ranging meter requires the operator to flip through different settings until the correct range is reached. An auto-ranging meter cycles through range settings automatically until it reaches the correct range.

Amprobe manufactures electrical testing equipment for commercial, industrial, and home use. The company was founded in 1948 and is headquartered in Everett, WA.
