The Mitutoyo 543-287B IDC-C112REB Digimatic indicator gauge measures to 0.5” (12.77 mm), has an LCD digital readout with selectable resolution of 0.00001” (0.0002 mm) or 0.05” (1 mm), and data output to transmit results to a Mitutoyo miniprocessor or computer for statistical process control (SPC). The gauge is accurate to + or - 0.00012” (0.003 mm), and supports a measuring force of 1.5 newtons or less. The unit runs on, and includes, one SR44 battery.

This indicator gauge has an electronic microprocessor that can perform calculations based on spindle displacement and programmable arithmetic coefficients for direct measurement of inside diameter and radius of curvature when used with optional fixtures (sold separately). It can also preset a reference height at any position, set a temporary zero position and return to a true zero reading, switch counting direction, set upper and lower tolerance bounds, and indicate in- or out-of-tolerance (GO/±NG) measurements when bounds are set. The LCD digital readout can display measurements in inches or metric units. The output port transmits results to a Mitutoyo miniprocessor or computer through an interface cable for SPC (sold separately). An electrostatic capacitance linear encoder helps prevent overspeed errors which help ensure repeatable, precise measurement. The gauge’s stem diameter is 3/8”, with threads conforming to #4-48 UNF of the Unified Thread Standard (UTS). The gauge conforms to the American National Standards Institute/American Gage Design (ANSI/AGD) standard.

Indicator gauges, also called gages or dial indicators, are precision instruments that measure short linear distances. They are commonly used for detecting deviations from tolerance limits, such as the amount of surface distortion, or runout, on a round or cylindrical workpiece. They have two styles: digital indicator gauges and dial indicator gauges. Digital indicator gauges use an electronic sensor and display measurement through an LCD or other digital display. Dial indicator gauges measure through a spring-loaded plunger driven into its shaft. The pointer on the dial display marks the degree the plunger is depressed, while an additional turn counter may track the number of times the pointer has spun around the dial. For all types of indicator gauges, runout is typically measured when the tip of the plunger (the point) is held perpendicular to the rotating workpiece. Indicator gauges are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering.
