The Amprobe AC75B digital clamp meter with included temperature probe is an average-sensing, auto-ranging multimeter for measuring current, voltage, microamp current, capacitance, resistance, and temperature in electrical testing and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) applications. It has a clamp that measures alternating current (AC) to 600 amp. The meter comes with detachable test leads that measure direct current (DC) voltage to 1,000 volts, AC voltage to 750V, DC microcurrent to 4,000 microamp, capacitance to 4,000 microfarads, and resistance to 40 megaohms. The clamp has two jaws that can close around an electrical conductor up to 1.3" (35 mm) in diameter to measure current without touching or interrupting the circuit. The meter comes with a K-type thermocouple probe for measuring temperature. The microamp feature has a 0.1 microamp resolution for measuring current changes in flame detector applications. The meter's 4,000-microfarad capacitance rating is high enough to test run/start capacitors on motors. An audible continuity sensor confirms that the circuit conducts electricity, and a diode test detects whether a circuit’s diodes are working properly. The hold function keeps the reading on the display, even after the meter is disconnected. The meter's backlit liquid crystal display (LCD) is visible in low light. The unit automatically turns off after 10 minutes of non-use to conserve battery life, and a low-battery indicator signals when the meter's batteries need to be replaced. A finger guard on the body of the meter helps protect fingers from shock.

This average-sensing, or average-responding, meter provides accurate readings when measuring linear loads, such as standard induction motors and incandescent lights, where the current or voltage has a sinusoidal waveform. It is an auto-ranging multimeter and automatically selects the correct operating range for the property being measured. The meter has a 4,000-count resolution, meaning that it can display up to 3,999 units (3-3/4 digits) before the operating range needs to be changed. Both the meter and included test leads meet International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) safety standard 61010. The meter is certified for category III installations up to 600V, which covers items used with enclosed building circuit installations (service panel parts, branch circuits, and fixed installations that are connected directly to a building's AC power supply), and the test leads are certified for category II installations up to 1000V, which covers large household appliances and devices connected to a fixed power supply, such as refrigerators and air conditioners. The unit comes with a carrying case that has a belt loop.

Clamp meters (also called clamp-on meters) measure electrical current without cutting through wires or touching or interrupting the electrical circuit. Available in handheld or benchtop models, clamp meters diagnose problems in electrical equipment, wiring, and power supplies. The meter's current clamp has two jaws that fit around a conductor to take measurements. All clamp meters test for current. Some come with test leads and inputs for measuring voltage, capacitance, and resistance. They display information either in analog or digital form. Factors that influence meter choice include the electrical properties to be measured, the anticipated range of results, and the desired level of protection against transient voltages determine meter choice. Safety ratings are based on the International Electrotechnical Commission's (IEC) standards for low-voltage test equipment. IEC 61010 delineates four overvoltage installation categories. In general, a meter with a category IV rating will provide more protection against transient voltages than a meter with a lower category rating.

Amprobe manufactures electrical testing equipment for commercial, industrial, and home use. The company was founded in 1948 and is headquartered in Everett, WA.
