The calibrated Mitutoyo 1410S-10CAL dial indicator is used to measure surface variations. It has a measurement range of 0 to 0.25", graduations of 0.001", an accuracy of + or - 0.001", and a range per revolution of 0.1". It has a white dial and contrasting hand for readability. The compact size of this indicator (diameter of 40mm) makes it suitable for use in environments where space is limited. The stem design provides a long clamping range; the frame has no through screw-holes, which improves dust- and water-resistance; and it has a lug back for mounting from the rear of the indicator. This dial indicator meets ANSI standards, Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) B7503-1997, and American Gage Design (AGD) standards for face and thread size, and bezel and stem diameter. Mitutoyo calibrated tools include a Certificate of Calibration that provides evidence that the tool has been calibrated and is within allowable error specifications. Mitutoyo calibrated tools are certified by Mitutoyo's American Association for Laboratory Accreditation-accredited calibration laboratory (A2LA Certificate #750-01) to the International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) 17025 International Standard for testing and calibration laboratories.

This dial indicator has a 3/8" diameter stem and a #4-48 UNF contact point thread mount. It is a continuous dial with a reading of 0-100, for direct readings. It has a force of 1.4 Newtons (N) or less.

H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right.

Dial indicators are also called dial gauges, probe, and electronic indicators. These precision instruments measure small linear distances and object sizes. The dial magnifies the measurement so that it can be easily read by the human eye. Frequently used in manufacturing, laboratories, and other industrial or mechanical fields, dial indicators are used anywhere a small measurement must be found and recorded or transferred, such as checking the variation in tolerance of a workpiece. Standard dial indicators measure the displacement along the axis of the indicator. Dial test indicators are very similar to dial indicators, except that the axis of measurement is perpendicular to the axis of the indicator. Dial and dial test indicators can be analog, with a mechanical dial, or electronic, with a digital display. Some electronic models transfer the data electronically to a computer for recording and potential manipulation.
