The Oakton ECTestr is a waterproof, dual-range conductivity meter with automatic temperature compensation, an LCD screen, and a replaceable electrode. This conductivity meter measures electrical conductivity for a wide range of water quality applications. It has automatic temperature compensation (ATC) for accurate readings in fluctuating temperatures, and manual or automatic one- or two-point calibration for flexibility of use. The dual-line LCD screen provides indicators and error messages. It comes with an integrated, 2-pin, stainless steel electrode that provides chemical resistance and is replaceable. The meter's housing is Ingress Protection certified IP67 for protection against dust and short periods of immersion in water. The unit operates on four 1.5V batteries, and turns off automatically after 8.5 minutes of non-use to conserve battery life. It has a low-battery indicator that signals when the battery needs to be replaced. The meter floats if dropped into the water to prevent against loss. It comes with batteries and instructions. Conductivity meters are commonly used in the water-quality testing, waste-water treatment, hydroponics, agriculture, and aquaculture industries, in cosmetics manufacturing, and in laboratory research.

Conductivity meters, also known as electrical conductivity (EC) meters, measure the ability of a solution or material to conduct an electrical current. This measurement helps determine if the solution is, for example, contaminated or contains too much saline. In general, pure solutions, such as distilled water, have low conductivity. More saline- or nutrient-rich solutions, such as seawater or fertilizers, have high conductivity. Conductivity measurements are often used with total dissolved solids (TDS) measurements, which are typically expressed in ppm (parts per million). TDS consist of dissolved minerals and salts. To determine the amount of TDS, conductivity is measured, and the result is converted to a TDS measurement. Different meters provide results for conductivity, TDS, or both, and the application determines meter selection. Conductivity meters are used in research laboratories and a variety of industries, such as water-quality testing, waste-water treatment, hydroponics, agriculture, aquaculture, and cosmetics manufacturing.

Oakton Instruments manufactures scientific instruments such as meters, electrodes, and transmitters for research, industrial, and educational uses. The company, founded in 1991, is headquartered in Vernon Hills, IL.
