The Brown & Sharpe 599-749-1 includes two mild steel blocks and one clamp, and is suitable for large, heavy work. Mild steel provides strength and durability, and the blocks feature squareness for increased usability, accuracy, and measurement consistency. Blocks feature two clamping grooves and lower grooves that allow blocks to be clamped to work surface. Sides are square with each other within .003â€, ends are square with sides within .003â€, v-groove is parallel and central with sides within .002â€, and v’s of pairs are central and parallel to each other within .004â€. V-groove is 90 degrees + or - ½ degrees. Dimensions are 2-1/2†(64 mm) square x 3†(76 mm) long. Work capacity is approximately 1/2†to 2-1/2†(13 to 64 mm) diameter. V-blocks are small part work holders. They are held in place with the assistance of a clamp. The grove allows a channel for the clamp to hold down the part being measured or modified. Brown & Sharpe was founded in 1833, had a major part in setting industrial standards in the United States, and has given its name to several standards, including a tool spindle taper, a worm threadform, and others. Brown & Sharpe was acquired by Hexagon Metrology in 2001, and has since focused on precision measuring equipment and metrology hand tools. The Brown & Sharpe line of coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), optical measuring systems, benchtop measuring machines, and precision hand tools offer consistent, high-quality design, construction, and performance. Brown & Sharpe has manufacturing facilities in North America, Switzerland, and China.
