The Fowler 52-520-950 dial indicator with hydraulic-arm magnetic base has an American Gage Design (AGD) Group 2, 2-1/4" dial face with a continuous dial, a 0.40" measuring range, 0.001" graduations, a revolution counter, and tolerance markers, and is designed to measure surface variations in fractions of an inch. The indicator is dust-proof, water-proof, oil-proof, coolant-proof, and shock-proof. The 0-100 continuous dial with revolution counter has a total measuring range of 0.40" and 0.001" graduations, with each revolution equal to 0.1". An adjustable bezel and dial sets the zeros the reading at any location. Tolerance markers allow operators to observe limits at a glance. The magnetic base has a 75-lb. pull and a hydraulic arm that eliminates vibration and movement during use, and can be micro-adjusted on two ball sockets. An on/off lever releases the magnet. The set includes a dial indicator and magnetic base. Dial readings with three digits, 0-10-0 for example, signify that the indicator has a balanced dial. Dial readings with two digits, 0-100 for example, indicate the dial has a continuous dial. Balanced dials are used for reading the difference from a specific surface reference point. Continuous dials are used for direct readings and usually have a larger measurement range than balanced dials. The Brown & Sharpe Miti-Mite Mini Magnetic Base indicator holder is compatible with dial and dial test indicators, grips three ways, and has an always-on magnetic field. It is smaller than equivalent standard size Brown & Sharpe magnetic bases, for use in tight spaces. The v-base grips to flat and rounded surfaces, while the ball and socket joint at the base of the 5†long rod provides reach and orientation not possible with fixed post holders. The fine rod adjustment helps to get the indicator into place for testing with more ease and accuracy than a base without fine adjustment. The 1-1/4" square x 1-3/4" high base grips horizontally, vertically, and upside-down. For use with all Brown & Sharpe dial and dial test indicators, as well as similar indicators from other manufacturers. Magnetic bases are magnetic fixtures commonly used in metalworking to hold dial indicators, and are also used in other fields, such as optics. Magnetic bases can assist the user with setting up a workpiece in a milling machine, surface grinder, or other machine tool. The vertical post and rod in a magnetic base connect using swiveling connectors, or snugs. This allows free motion of the arm so that the dial indicator can be moved into position on the workpiece. Many magnetic bases have a V-step, which is a V-shaped notch in the base for holding the base to arbors, shafts, and other cylindrical items. The magnetic base has a circular hole through the center. A round permanent magnet is inserted into this hole, and a handle or button is attached to allow the user to rotate the magnet. Rotating the magnet turns the base on and off as this causes the position of the magnetic field to rotate as well. In the on position, the iron is acting as an extension of the magnet, while in the off position, the magnet is acting as a keeper, preventing the magnetic field from extending through the base. Brown & Sharpe manufactures precision measuring equipment and metrology hand tools. The company, founded in 1833, played a key role in setting...
