The Mitutoyo 950-213 spring divider has an 8"/200mm maximum measuring distance for use in layout and in transferring measurements. It has hardened and tempered steel joints, spring, washers and divider points for durability. The spring divider has a knurled nut for adjusting divider point width, and is suitable for applications such as scribing an arc in layout for machined parts.Calipers measure the distance between two opposing sides of an object. They make inside, outside, depth, or step measurements, according to their type. Calipers are commonly used in architecture, metalworking, mechanical engineering, and machining. The simplest calipers have two legs to mark the two points and require a ruler to take the measurement. More complex calipers use two sets of jaws instead of legs and have up to two graduated scales. Vernier, dial, and digital calipers give direct and accurate readings and are functionally identical, having a calibrated scale with a fixed jaw, and another jaw with a movable pointer that slides along the scale. The vernier caliper has a scale sliding parallel to the main scale for an additional, fractional reading to improve measurement precision. The dial caliper has a circular dial with a pointer on a toothed gear rack replacing the second vernier scale. As with the vernier, this second measurement is added to the reading from the main scale to obtain the result. The digital caliper takes a differential by zeroing the display at any point along the slide, with an LCD that displays a single value in English and/or metric units.Mitutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and related systems. The company, founded in Tokyo in 1934, formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963 with headquarters in Aurora, IL.

The Starrett 79B-4 “Yankee†spring-type outside caliper opens to 4†(100 mm) with sturdy construction and smooth action. The threads of the spring nut firmly engage the screw with pressure from the leg. When pressure is withdrawn, the nut automatically releases itself and slides freely over the screw, saving time in opening and closing. It is made of flat stock, high-grade steel, for easily reproducible and accurate transfer of measurements of the external size of an object. This caliper has flat, inward curving legs for outside measurements and comes with a spring nut. Bow spring is flexible yet strong, for reliability. The durable legs are made of flat stock, high-grade steel for long life. The centrally located adjustment rod ensures smooth action when opening and closing the caliper. The hardened fulcrum stud is strong to help prevent give or play in the measurement, which would reduce accuracy. Calipers measure the distance between two opposing sides of an object. The Starrett 274-6 Toolmakers’ spring-type inside caliper opens to 6†(150 mm) with a fine adjustment and balance. It is precision made to rigid standards, for easily reproducible and accurate transfer of measurements of the internal size of an object. This caliper has round, outwardly curving legs for inside measurements and comes with a solid nut. The hardened fulcrum stud is strong to help prevent give or play in the measurement, which would reduce accuracy. The large leg bearing surfaces prevent side deflection, again to aid in accuracy. The Starrett 36-24 lock joint transfer-type outside caliper with fine adjustment has a leg length of 24†(600 mm) but opens to approximately one-third larger than the leg length. Inwardly curving leg tips measure the external size of an object. Legs are made from high-grade steel and are ruggedly constructed and well-finished. The locking joint can be quickly and firmly locked by a partial turn of the large knurled disc. Transfer arm allows the user to transfer measurements from awkward places where it is necessary to move the legs after they have been set to size. The adjusting screw permits fine adjustment for very accurate measurements. Knurled adjusting nut makes the final adjustment after the legs have been set to approximate size and the joint has been locked. The spring washer under the disc maintains proper leg tension when the joint is loosened. Curved tips transfer the measurement of the external size of an object.
