The Fluke EI-162BN split core clamp-on transformer allows the Fluke 1623 or Fluke 1625 earth ground tester to take ground loop resistance measurements around transmission line pylons. The split core transformer makes it possible to measure individual resistances for each tower leg without disconnecting ground leads, overhead static wires, or ground wires. The transformer has 1,000 windings, with connections at winding ratios of 1,000, 500, 300, 200, and 0 available to set before use with meter for minimum measuring and maximum parasitic currents expected to flow through the transmission line pylon. The inside diameter of the clamp is 320mm/12.6 inches.

The split core transformer includes two fasteners for holding the transformer halves together, a cable bobbin with two 12m/40ft. test leads for connecting the transformer to the tester’s jack, contact clamp, user manual, and a carrying case. If the user owns the non-kit version of the Fluke 1623 or 1625 ground resistance meter, the split core transformer also requires use of a Fluke 2539195 probe cable (sold separately). The Fluke E1-162BN is manufactured in compliance with DIN ISO 9001 quality assurance system.

Ground-resistance meters test the condition of a grounding system, and provide resistivity measurements in ohms. The meters are available in digital, analog, and clamp models. Grounding systems protect people and equipment, and provide a safe path for the dissipation of fault currents, lightning strikes, static discharges, EMI and RFI signals, and interference. Regular testing of a grounding system is important for safety and protection of equipment. For example, corrosive soil with high moisture content can degrade ground rods and connections in existing systems and increase the resistance of the system. Ground-resistance meters are used in conjunction with a variety of testing methods to troubleshoot intermittent electrical problems or as part of a regular maintenance plan.

Fluke Corporation manufactures electrical testing tools and software for industrial and commercial applications. The company, founded in 1948, is headquartered in Everett, WA.
