The Fowler Economy Depth Micrometers, depending on the model, have a measurement range of 0 to 4" or 0 to 6", a base of 2.5" or 4", and a resolution (or smallest graduation interval) of 0.001", with + or – 0.001" of accuracy. The vernier scale provides precise measurements in fine units. Depending on the range of the model, the gauges include either or 0.176" diameter measuring rods. The units have a ratchet thimble and locking clamp for accuracy. The bases of the units are ground, hardened, and lapped for durability and accuracy. They have a satin chrome finish to reduce glare when reading measurements. They come with two wrenches and a hardened case. The gauges conform to Federal Accuracy specifications. Depth gauges are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. Depth gauges are precision measuring instruments used to determine the depth of any shape that has a step, groove, or slot. These gauges often take the form of sliders that travel on a measuring beam or rods, are moved to position by hand, and then adjusted with a calibrated screw. The base of the gauge rests at the top of the shape whose recession is to be measured, while the beam or rods extend to the bottom of the recession to determine the measurement. Gauge position is read from a graduated scale, dial, counters, or an electronic display. The Fred V. Fowler Company manufactures inspection and measurement instruments such as electronic indicators, calipers, bore gages, and digital scales. The company, founded in 1946, is headquartered in Newton, MA.

The Standard Gage 00224002 Value Vernier Depth Gauge has a measurement range of 0 to 6" and is accurate to + or - 0.00020". Gradient spacing is 0.001" and the base is 2.5". Six high accuracy interchangeable depth rods are adjusted in increments of 1". The ratchet friction thimble and locking nut provide accurate measurement readings and adjustments. The base surface is hardened and ground for accurate readings. There is no need for resetting when changing rods. The gauge is made of steel for durability. Designed for measuring the depth of holes, slots, and recesses, and for inspecting jib, fixtures, and die work, these depth gauges are also convenient for measuring coordinate distances from a work surface to toolmakers' buttons.Bore gauges measure holes, or bores, in a workpiece. They can measure the interior diameter of a hole at any depth, while internal micrometers can only measure to the depth of their teeth. Bore gauges are typically calibrated with a setting ring and come in two types: simple and direct-measuring. Simple bore gauges are used with a caliper to transfer the hole measurement, while the more complex gauges take the measurement directly, and display it through a vernier, dial, or digital display. Bore gauges have a two- or three-point contact, indicating how many points on the gauge head touch the inside of the bore. Two-point contacts are better at measuring ovality, while three-point contacts are used to measure lobing or triangular form error. Pistol-grip bore gauges are used for fast, single-handed operation with repeatable results from one operator to another. Bore gauges can also be used in special applications, such as measuring threads, spline pitch diameters, and deep bores.Standard Gage manufactures precision measuring equipment and metrology hand tools.
