The Starrett 363 series digital micrometer head has a mechanical digit counter in metric units for ease of reading to 0.01mm, and a knurled ring-type lock nut to hold measurements in place. The micrometer has a plain stem for mounting in a fixture with a split-body clamp or setscrew. The micrometer has a satin chrome rust- and glare-resistant finish. The spindle is made of hardened steel to help provide durability, with a flat measuring face suitable for measurement or use as a stop, and is micro-lapped to help provide accuracy.Micrometers are precision measuring instruments that use a calibrated screw to measure small distances. These measurements are translated into large rotations of the screw that are then able to be read from a scale or a dial. Micrometers are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. There are three types of micrometer: outside, inside, and depth. Outside micrometers may also be called micrometer calipers, and are used to measure the length, width, or outside diameter of an object. Inside micrometers are typically used to measure interior diameter, as in a hole. Depth micrometers measure the height, or depth, of any shape that has a step, groove, or slot. Micrometer heads are for mounting in fixtures, where they are typically used for measurement, or as stops or feeds. The L.S. Starrett Company manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology and testing equipment, and saw blade products. The company was founded in 1880 and is headquartered in Athol, MA.

The Fowler 54-860 series digital outside micrometer has a disc-style anvil/spindle pair, a choice of measuring range, and an LCD with an inch/metric switchable resolution for measuring the thickness of narrow grooves and difficult or closely spaced areas, such as slots and recesses. Disc micrometers are also used to measure ribs, keys, fins, cutting edges on forming tools, and the chordal thickness of gear teeth. Carbide measuring faces provide wear resistance. A switchable resolution of 0.00005" and 0.001mm, and an accuracy of 0.00016"/0.004mm on 1 to 2" micrometers provide precise readings and accurate measurements. A friction thimble provides smooth and quiet operations, and is suitable for one-handed operation. Friction-style thimbles stop turning when the spindle comes into contact with the workpiece, providing constant force for consistent measurements between operators. The insulated steel housing provides durability and is Ingress Protection (IP) certified IP54 for protection against dust and water. The LCD has a hold feature that saves the reading for recording. The micrometer can be set to take absolute or incremental measurements. Absolute measurements provide the total dimension of the workpiece. Incremental measurements provide a reading that shows the difference between a set standard and workpiece being measured. This type of reading is often used to determine if a workpiece falls within tolerance levels. RS-232 output transfers data to a computer (cable not included). The micrometer requires a Type 357 battery (included), and includes a fitted case. Micrometers 2" and above include a standard. The Mitutoyo 323 series LCD disk micrometer has disc-shaped measuring faces with flanges for measuring the pitch of gear teeth. It also has a ratchet-stop mechanism for uniform adjustment, a non-rotating spindle that helps provide steady positioning during measurement, an LCD digital readout that displays in metric units with resolution to 0.001mm for outside diameter (OD) measurement, and Statistical Process Control (SPC) data output to transmit results to a computer or external device. The micrometer’s electronic microprocessor can hold measurements at any position, convert to absolute value, set a temporary zero position, and return to a true zero reading. The output jack transmits SPC results to a computer through an interface cable (sold separately). The micrometer has an Ingress Protection 65 (IP65) rating, which means that components are resistant to penetration by dust and debris, and resistant to penetration by liquids and coolant up to the force of a low-pressure (to 30 kilonewtons/meter-squared) water jet. The frame is made of high-grade tool steel. The unit comes with an SR44 battery and a fitted plastic case. These micrometers are highly useful tools for internal linear measurements such as measuring cylinders, rings, setting calipers, comparing gauges and measuring parallel surfaces. The extension rods are made of steel tubing, light in weight, yet extremely rigid. Rods are approximately 9.5mm diameter to meet the requirements of mechanics who prefer this larger diameter. By removing the hardened and ground anvil ends (end caps) of the micrometer head, the rods may be attached to either or both ends of the micrometer as preferred. Each rod may be individually adjusted for wear by the hardened and ground anvil at the end. Tubular measuring rods are lightweight, yet extremely rigid. Rods are insulated, with the exception of 13mm and 25mm sizes also each rod is marked with length. Movement of screw: 13mm.

These are the most popular inside micrometers because of their lightness, ease of use, and range. They are very useful for measuring inside diameters of cylinders and rings, measuring parallel surfaces, etc. The desired range is obtained by assembling rods and spacing collars to the micrometer head. Measuring rods are provided with a shoulder that is set accurately in the micrometer head and locked in position. When assembling rods to the A and B heads, the reading line on the micrometer head should be lined up with the marking on each rod (except for the 2-3"). Rod diameters are approximately 11/32". Each rod has individual length adjustment for the anvil by means of special wrenches furnished. Movement of screw: 1", Number of measuring rods: 4, Number of spacing collars: One 1" Two 2".
