The Mitutoyo 146 series groove micrometer has a flanged spindle for measurement of grooves, bores, and tubes, and a vernier scale with dual graduations in metric units for taking inside dimension (ID) and outside dimension (OD) measurements. It also has a bidirectional ratchet-stop mechanism for uniform pressure during adjustment. The vernier scale on the thimble and sleeve is graduated to 0.01mm. The micrometer is made of high-grade tool steel for durability and has a satin chrome rust- and glare-resistant finish. Micrometers are precision measuring instruments that use a calibrated screw to measure small distances. These measurements are translated into large rotations of the screw that are then able to be read from a scale or a dial. Micrometers are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. There are three types of micrometer: outside, inside, and depth. Outside micrometers may also be called micrometer calipers, and are used to measure the length, width, or outside diameter of an object. Inside micrometers are typically used to measure interior diameter, as in a hole. Depth micrometers measure the height, or depth, of any shape that has a step, groove, or slot.Mitutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and systems. The company was founded in Tokyo in 1934 and formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963, which is headquartered in Aurora, IL.

The Fowler 54-860 series digital outside micrometer has a blade-style anvil/spindle pair, a choice of measuring range, and an LCD with an inch/metric switchable resolution for measuring groove diameters of shafts and workpieces with narrow or recessed features. Carbide measuring faces provide wear resistance. A switchable resolution of 0.00005" and 0.001mm provides precise readings. A friction thimble provides smooth and quiet operations, and is suitable for one-handed operation. Friction-style thimbles stop turning when the spindle comes into contact with the workpiece, providing constant force for consistent measurements between operators. The insulated steel housing provides durability and is Ingress Protection (IP) certified IP54 for protection against dust and water. The LCD has a hold feature that saves the reading for recording. The micrometer can be set to take absolute or incremental measurements. Absolute measurements provide the total dimension of the workpiece. Incremental measurements provide a reading that shows the difference between a set standard and workpiece being measured. This type of reading is often used to determine if a workpiece falls within tolerance levels. RS-232 output transfers data to a computer (cable not included). The micrometer requires a Type 357 battery (included), and includes a fitted case. Micrometers 2" and above include a standard. The Starrett 124MBZ solid-rod inside micrometer set offers a range from 50 mm to 300 mm, is graduated at 0.01 mm intervals, and comes in a protective vinyl-and-steel case. The hardened, radius-ground anvils on rods are accurate. Solid-rod inside micrometers are often used for measuring the inside diameter of a cylinder or ring and when measuring parallel surfaces. The micrometer head, rods, and spacing collars are assembled to the desired range and then adjusted to obtain the measurement. Micrometers are precision measuring instruments that use a calibrated screw to measure small distances. These measurements are translated into large rotations of the screw that are then able to be read from a scale or a dial. Starrett Company was founded in 1880, originally manufacturing bench vises, squares, and other tools. They acquired other companies throughout the years, expanding their services into making precision measurement instruments and tools, such as calipers, micrometers, saw blades, and gauges. Starrett is headquartered in Athol, Massachusetts and has manufacturing facilities in Brazil, the United Kingdom, China, and other locations.
