The Fowler Economy Depth Micrometers, depending on the model, have a measurement range of 0 to 4" or 0 to 6", a base of 2.5" or 4", and a resolution (or smallest graduation interval) of 0.001", with + or – 0.001" of accuracy. The vernier scale provides precise measurements in fine units. Depending on the range of the model, the gauges include either or 0.176" diameter measuring rods. The units have a ratchet thimble and locking clamp for accuracy. The bases of the units are ground, hardened, and lapped for durability and accuracy. They have a satin chrome finish to reduce glare when reading measurements. They come with two wrenches and a hardened case. The gauges conform to Federal Accuracy specifications. Depth gauges are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. Depth gauges are precision measuring instruments used to determine the depth of any shape that has a step, groove, or slot. These gauges often take the form of sliders that travel on a measuring beam or rods, are moved to position by hand, and then adjusted with a calibrated screw. The base of the gauge rests at the top of the shape whose recession is to be measured, while the beam or rods extend to the bottom of the recession to determine the measurement. Gauge position is read from a graduated scale, dial, counters, or an electronic display. The Fred V. Fowler Company manufactures inspection and measurement instruments such as electronic indicators, calipers, bore gages, and digital scales. The company, founded in 1946, is headquartered in Newton, MA.

The Mitutoyo 153 series micrometer head has a vernier scale in metric units for taking precise measurements and a non-rotating spindle that helps prevent wear and deformation on the workpiece. It is available with a plain stem for mounting in a fixture with a split-body clamp or setscrew, or a clamp-nut stem for quick mounting. The vernier scale is graduated to 0.01mm or 0.001mm depending on the model, and has a satin chrome rust- and glare-resistant finish. The flat measuring face is carbide-tipped for wear resistance and is lapped to help provide accuracy.Micrometers are precision measuring instruments that use a calibrated screw to measure small distances. These measurements are translated into large rotations of the screw that are then able to be read from a scale or a dial. Micrometers are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. There are three types of micrometer: outside, inside, and depth. Outside micrometers may also be called micrometer calipers, and are used to measure the length, width, or outside diameter of an object. Inside micrometers are typically used to measure interior diameter, as in a hole. Depth micrometers measure the height, or depth, of any shape that has a step, groove, or slot. Micrometer heads are for mounting in fixtures, where they are typically used for measurement, or as stops or feeds.Mitutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and systems. The company was founded in Tokyo in 1934 and formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963, which is headquartered in Aurora, IL.

The Fowler 54-860-002-1 digital outside micrometer has a flat anvil/spindle pair, an LCD with an inch/metric switchable resolution, and is designed for general purpose measuring. A switchable resolution of 0.00005" and 0.001mm, and an accuracy of 0.00016"/0.004mm on 1 to 2" micrometers provide precise readings and accurate measurements. A friction thimble provides smooth and quiet operations, and is suitable for one-handed operation. Friction-style thimbles stop turning when the spindle comes into contact with the work piece, providing constant force for consistent measurements between operators. The insulated steel housing provides durability and is Ingress Protection (IP) certified IP54 for protection against dust and water. An ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) housing protects electronic components against impact and provides electrical insulation. This product has a 1 year warranty offered by Fowler Precision. If you experience any problem contact Fowler directly for warranty claims. The micrometer can be set to take absolute or incremental measurements. Absolute measurements provide the total dimension of the work piece. Incremental measurements provide a reading that shows the difference between a set standard and work piece being measured. This type of reading is often used to determine if a work piece falls within tolerance levels. An automatic shut-off feature extends battery life. RS-232 output transfers data to a computer (cable not included). The micrometer requires a Type CR2032 battery (included), and includes a wrench and a fitted case. Micrometers 2" and above include a standard.
