Fowler 52-660 series pocket loupe magnifiers have a triplet glass lens to provide distortion-free viewing for a variety of applications, such as jewelry-making, watch-making, needlework, artwork, electronic inspection, fly-tying, book-reading, print inspection, and stamp-collecting. The lenses are recessed from the surface and pivot into the body when not in use to protect them from scratches and wear, and the polished chrome body protects the lens from damage. Diopter (D) is a technical term for the measurement of the light curvature and thickness of a lens. A dioptric number and a magnification number are not the same thing. Diopter strength represents a specific magnification power (X). For example, a 5-diopter provides 2.5X magnification (at a distance of 8"). The higher the diopter, the more magnification a lens can provide. As magnification increases, distance to the object (focal length), and field of view (diameter, or narrowness of view) decrease. Magnifiers and prescription eyeglasses have a diopter value, such as 1.5 or 2. The dioptric strength of an accessory lens, such as prescription eyeglasses or an eye loupe, must be added to the dioptric strength of the magnifier to calculate total magnification.Magnifiers are devices used to enlarge the visual appearance of an object or image. Magnifiers come in a variety of styles such as hand-held, headband, standing, clip-on, eye loupe, and those that hang in a necklace form, or fit in a trouser pocket. Magnifiers are commonly made of plastic or glass. They can have one or more lenses with varying magnification abilities, and can have a binocular configuration with a single lens, or two separate lenses. They are sometimes used with LED or fluorescent light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Magnifier ability is often expressed as magnification at a specific length. For example, 1.75X at 14" means that when a magnifier is held at 14" from a viewer's eyes, the object will be magnified 1.75 times (X) its actual size. As magnification increases, viewi...

The Fowler One-Rev stainless steel dial caliper has dial graduations of 0.001" with 0.001" accuracy, a sliding jaw with a lock, and a covered rack. The knurled lock screw holds the sliding jaw in position and helps ensure a consistent measurement. A covered rack prevents dirt and debris from clogging the gear, and helps prevent measurement errors. A thumb-operated fine adjustment roller allows for one-handed use. This caliper is used for measuring inside dimensions (ID), outside dimensions (OD), depth, and step. The caliper measures 0.10" per revolution of the dial. The dial has 0.001" graduations, and the beam has engraved 0.10" graduations. The hardened stainless steel components, including the bar, measuring surfaces, rack, gears, and depth rod, offer corrosion resistance, increased accuracy, and long life. Self-contained movement eliminates gear misalignment, while the dual pinion drive mechanism reduces wear on the rack and pinion. An adjustable dial enables setting zero. Spring anti-backlash control offers increased accuracy over standard gear configurations. Backlash is the amount of clearance between mated gear teeth in the caliper controls that prevents the gear teeth from jamming. It is undesirable to have much backlash due to the lack of precision offered by the increased amount of play between gears. Certain gear designs can minimize or eliminate backlash; spring anti-backlash systems use a spring to add a compressive force, thereby minimizing backlash. The hardened stainless steel is polished to a satin chrome finish, to help prevent glare. This caliper comes with a fitted case.Dial calipers are measuring instruments commonly used for inspection in manufacturing to provide the precise measurements of an object. A pair of jaws attached to a long beam with a marked scale is used to measure inside, outside, and step measurements in standard or metric units. An additional depth probe slides along the beam to take depth measurements. One jaw is fixed to the end of the scale, while the other jaw slides alon...

The Mitutoyo 505 series dial caliper uses a combination of a vernier scale and a dial with a pointer that travels one rotation for each 0.2†measured to perform precise outside dimension (OD), inside dimension (ID), depth, and step measurements. The dial caliper has a fixed (main) scale and a movable dial, unlike the vernier caliper which has a second, movable vernier scale. The dial is circular and has a pointer; it is mounted on a toothed gear track which drives the pointer. As the dial moves over the main scale rule, the pointer rotates once to give the additional fractional reading. The second measurement is added to the main scale reading to obtain a final result accurate to the smallest graduation marked on the dial. The main scale and dial are marked in inches. The dial can be rotated beneath the pointer to measure size differential between two objects. The dial caliper is easier to read than the vernier caliper, thus safeguarding against user reading errors. Its standard of precise measurement complements the use of the vernier caliper; the dial provides an ease in reading and interpolating measurements which most vernier calipers, due to their need for direct observation of both scales, may not provide. The dial uses a rack-and-pinion mechanism and is mounted on a gear track where each tooth equals one quarter of the dial revolution, and four teeth equal 0.2â€. The smooth-moving dial is graduated to 0.001†and offers gear train shock protection. A thumbwheel permits fast operation with one hand. A clamping screw controls scale movement and a dial calibration lock holds the sliding jaw’s position. The caliper is made of hardened stainless steel construction with titanium nitride (TiN) coating on the beam wear surface helps extend caliper life. Two sets of jaws provide four-way measurement capability: outside dimension (OD), inside dimension (ID), depth, and step, where the butt end of the fixed jaw measures one end of a work piece before its upper/lower or inner/outer steps are m...

The Fowler 52-244-601 EZ-Read outside micrometer has a digit display with a 0.0001" resolution, a 0 to 1" measuring range, and a ball-style anvil/spindle pair to measure the inside and outside diameters of sleeves, collars, tubing, and other curved and cylindrical surfaces. The ball anvil and spindle contact the curve at a single point, providing accurate measurements. The digit display has a 0.0001" resolution and an accuracy of 0.0002" for precise readings and accurate measurements. Hardened, ground, and carbide-tipped measuring faces provide wear resistance. The hardened, ground, and lapped spindle thread provides smooth movement, accuracy, and long life. The locking lever on the spindle locks measurements in place for accurate readings. A friction thimble applies constant force for repeatability between users. Friction-style thimbles are suitable for one-handed operation and stop turning when the spindle comes into contact with the workpiece, providing constant force for consistent measurements between operators. The micrometer includes a wrench and a fitted case. These measurements are translated into large rotations of the screw that are then able to be read from a scale or a dial. Micrometers are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. There are three types of micrometer: outside, inside, and depth. Outside micrometers may also be called micrometer calipers, and are used to measure the length, width, or outside diameter of an object. Inside micrometers are typically used to measure interior diameter, as in a hole. Depth micrometers measure the height, or depth, of any shape that has a step, groove, or slot. The Fred V.
