The Mitutoyo 137 series tubular vernier inside micrometer includes a set of extension rods with anvils for a diversified range of measurement measuring inside dimensions (ID) of cylinders, rings, and parallel surfaces. It has a vernier scale in inch units for taking precise ID measurements to 0.001â€, and a satin chrome rust- and glare-resistant finish. The micrometer head has a travel of 0.5†per revolution that helps provide fine positioning. The solid extension rods help provide durability, and the measuring faces are carbide-tipped for wear resistance. A locking clamp helps hold measurements in place. The micrometer and accessories come with a fitted case for storage.Micrometers are precision measuring instruments that use a calibrated screw to measure small distances. These measurements are translated into large rotations of the screw that are then able to be read from a scale or a dial. Micrometers are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. There are three types of micrometer: outside, inside, and depth. Outside micrometers may also be called micrometer calipers, and are used to measure the length, width, or outside diameter of an object. Inside micrometers are typically used to measure interior diameter, as in a hole. Depth micrometers measure the height, or depth, of any shape that has a step, groove, or slot.Mitutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and systems. The company was founded in Tokyo in 1934 and formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963, which is headquartered in Aurora, IL.

The Starrett 84Z-134-5J Dial Bore Gauge has a measurement range of 3 to 5.1875" and gradient spacing of 0.0005". Two centralizing plungers provide accurate tool alignment within the bore. This direct-measuring gauge uses a two-point contact system for detection of geometry problems such as ovality and taper. Contact points are made of hardened tool steel contact points for wear resistance and are spring-loaded for sensitivity. The housing and knurled handle are made of aluminum for a lightweight feel and good balance. Dial indicators have jewel bearings for sensitivity and the gauge is furnished in a finished wood case.Bore gauges measure holes, or bores, in a workpiece. They can measure the interior diameter of a hole at any depth, while internal micrometers can only measure to the depth of their teeth. Bore gauges are typically calibrated with a setting ring and come in two types: simple and direct-measuring. Simple bore gauges are used with a caliper to transfer the hole measurement, while the more complex gauges take the measurement directly, and display it through a vernier, dial, or digital display. Bore gauges have a two- or three-point contact, indicating how many points on the gauge head touch the inside of the bore. Two-point contacts are better at measuring ovality, while three-point contacts are used to measure lobing or triangular form error. Pistol-grip bore gauges are used for fast, single-handed operation with repeatable results from one operator to another. Bore gauges can also be used in special applications, such as measuring threads, spline pitch diameters, and deep bores. The L.S. Starrett Company manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology and testing equipment, and saw blade products. The company, founded in 1880, is headquartered in Athol, MA.
