Ground-resistance meters test the condition of a grounding system, and provide resistivity measurements in ohms. The meters are available in digital, analog, and clamp models. Grounding systems protect people and equipment, and provide a safe path for the dissipation of fault currents, lightning strikes, static discharges, EMI and RFI signals, and interference. Regular testing of a grounding system is important for safety and protection of equipment. For example, corrosive soil with high moisture content can degrade ground rods and connections in existing systems and increase the resistance of the system. Ground-resistance meters are used in conjunction with a variety of testing methods to troubleshoot intermittent electrical problems or as part of a regular maintenance plan.Test Products International (TPI) manufactures test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, manometers, multimeters, and test leads. The company, founded in 1997, is headquartered in Beaverton, OR.

The Megger DET24C digital clamp-on ground resistance meter measures ground resistance in multi-ground electrical installations and lightning protection systems without needing to disconnect the ground in electrical testing applications. It has a clamp with two jaws that can close around round cables and rods up to 1.45" (37 mm) in diameter and ground tapes and straps up to 1.96" (50 mm) wide to measure resistance without disconnecting the ground. The meter also provides true RMS (root mean square) measurements of current up to 35 amp to help ensure operator safety during operation. The meter has a user-selectable noise filter to allow measurements to be taken in areas with high amounts of electrical noise. The meter's internal data storage allows multiple results to be compared and tracked over time, and readings are date and time stamped. It comes with a software that provides a graphic user interface for working with the data on a computer. An alarm notifies user when user-selected minimum and maximum values for current and resistance are reached or exceeded. The hold function keeps a reading on the display, even after the meter is disconnected. In applications where the conductor is difficult to access, an auto-hold feature allows a reading to be captured without requiring the operator to press the button during measurement. The meter's liquid crystal display (LCD) is backlit to provide readability in low light. The clamp jaws have a smooth surface with no interlocking teeth to help prevent build-up of dirt and residue, which can interfere with measurements. The unit automatically turns off after five minutes of non-use to conserve battery life, and a low-battery indicator signals when the meter's batteries need to be replaced. This Megger earth test clamp-on ground resistance meter meets International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) safety standard 61010 and is certified for category IV installations up to 600V, which covers measurements at the source of the low-voltage supply, such as electricity meters an...

The AEMC 3711 portable clamp-on ground resistance tester measures electrical ground rod and grid resistance of installed multi-grounded systems around buildings, pads, cell towers, pools and spas, and most environments, with no leads, auxiliary rods, or spacing requirements. The meter measures down to 0.1Ω with resolution of 0.01Ω and a fast settling time of approximately one second. It provides high immunity to electrical noise around transmission towers and substations. The current measurement function provides a direct reading of leakage current flowing to ground or circulating in ground loops down to 1 milliAmp (mA) and neutral and phase currents to 30A RMS. The data hold function keeps the last reading on the display after disconnecting from the circuit under test, which allows user to record measurements in the field and analyze readings when convenient. For power management and extending battery life, the auto power-off feature shuts down the meter after a set period of time. Ground-resistance meters are used by electricians and contractors working in industrial, utility, and field servicing. The jaw design has a 1.25" opening that accommodates ground rods and larger ground conductor cables up to 1000kcmil. The ergonomic body design permits one-handed operation. The head and body of the instrument are constructed from polycarbonate material that is designed to withstand heavy outdoor usage. The tester comes with a calibration check loop and hard carrying case. Safety ratings include EN 61010 and CAT III. The double-insulated product is UL approved and CE marked.
